Waves of Life

Let the waves of life pass over

You will not be moved

Let the sun beat down

But it will not bring weariness to you

Though enemies will bring war against you

Your heart will know no fear

For the Lord is your strong tower

And laughter is your medicine of choice

You will dance in the spring time

Blooming like seeds planted in good soil

Father's Work

Image by Gabriela Piwowarska from Pixabay

My Lord let you're latter rain

Fall on the people

Open your ear to our plea

We cry for your help

In mourning and groaning

Falling on our knees

Let your glory and grace

Cover our needs

We run to the Father

While acknowledging the sacrifice of the Son

The unblemished Lamb

The Holy One

We will follow His lead

Doing our Father's business until the work is done

Good Men

Good gracious, Lord have mercy

Cover me in your grace

Wrap me in your love

Turn me not from your face

I have sinned

Again and again

Dug, deep, dark trenches

For the hearts and souls

Of good men

Knowing I could never

Care for them

I get it in

Impaired evenings lavished

With Dom Perignon, fast food and gin

At some point

Ya gonna speak

Only so many times

You can kiss on a man’s neck

And make his mind go weak

Something More

Check out my podcast Hope Speaks to hear the reading of this poem and more.

Oftentimes we judge the book by the cover. So we don't read it and never get to the precious information inside. Failing to read the forward. Ignoring the author's bio. Going past the parts that pertain to the index. Thinking what book of value can I reject next? The eyes bypass the context. Attempting to select the best thing but choosing according to the flesh. Scrolling through eBooks hoping to find deeper subtext but always coming up short. Look for easy reads in a library full of complicated stories. Running from grace while a closed heart secretly searches for the Lord. Why are we alive? What do we suffer long for? Questioning minds wonder... A lonely soul implores that we read for the pleasure of finding something MORE.

Customer Service Gone Wrong

Today, I went to work and I encountered a couple of impatient and rude customers. I watched as my coworker was slandered and berated by a patron that ignored her need for human decency. She apologized profusely as ivory cheeks turned red as beets and dry eyes filled pink rims with salty water. I thought how could someone treat another so poorly for getting their order wrong? They turned the bright sunlight beaming through the window into a dismal, pale yellowish tint. That faded at the slightest coverage of cloudy skies.

Why isn’t an apology enough anymore? It’s as though “I’m sorry” has lost all meaning? It has been used as a kleenex to catch a partial sneeze but it fails to cure the symptoms and sickness of the common cold. It seems as though the door has closed on the concept of forgiveness and grace. But the concept of cold indignation has consumed many people in our contemporary society. Receiving an improper order does not justify harsh and cruel treatment toward the server. There is a time in life when cooler heads should and must prevail.

Everyone who treats others with kindness deserves an increment of understanding as opposed to all out conflict. No one's job description pays to be harassed by rude customers hell bent on getting even no matter the emotional toll it takes on the employees attempting to stay in the workforce. Oftentimes, the people that shop at the store have means so it's pretty common for them to talk down to the staff. But I find these actions to be appalling.

According to Proverbs 19: 21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. 22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

The way people treat each other is a testament to what lies in their heart. In this world, many people have placed titles and rank before kindness. Customer service has become nearly unbearable for many people attempting to serve the masses with a smile. But I urge everyone to be respectful towards those who assist you because God will bless you for it in the end. At the end of they day we should all try our best to treat people how we want to be treated. I have fallen short of this many times in the past but it’s up to all of us to make an effort to be the change we want to see.

The Spirit of Fear

How many of you have played with a slinky? Whether it's a rainbow colored one or a solid color. We are amazed by the beauty of it when it stretches. When it bends down the stairs. Only to watch it shrink and return to it's original size.

That's the nature of the slinky to be more than what it appears. To go further than the inexperienced eye assumes it can go. I believe that is the nature of the human spirit when touched by the hand of God. We can surpass the limitations of the world. We can expand beyond what we ever knew we were capable of as a result of living in our true purpose.

But are we willing to be uncomfortable in order to grow? In order to persevere. Or do we fear the thought of breaking if we are stretched to far? I am here to tell you that you were not made to break. God will keep you as you work toward his purpose and design for your life.

I can speak from experience and say that God has placed things in my heart that I was scared to pursue. But now I am casting that spirit of fear down. Because it can only hinder my future and offset God's plan. It is written in Psalm 34:4, I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Sometimes, it's easy to fear the unknown than to walk the path that we are called to take. But we must stand in our convictions and allow faith to push out the anxiety.

In truth, I question if I am making this post for you or if it's actually to encourage me. But it's my hope that Christ will bless all those who have endured these feelings. Because we believe that fear is necessary for our survival. But really it is an agent of disaster sent to strip us of the promise and gift of living a full and meaningful life.

I hope that this post is able to give insight and hope in a time of unexpected changes and challenges.

Poetry In the Storm: My Prayer

I read this poem to my Father on his death bed. He always loved hearing my poetry and I loved being his daughter. This is a poem for anyone who has lost someone very dear to their heart.

My Prayer

Y’all don’t understand,

I’m gonna pray till the mercy falls down from heaven

Like misty, silky rain

I looked the angel of death in its eye

Still, I call on the Lord o my soul

I see Your glory even now

Hear me in the depth

And the solitude of my despair

Let the words from my humble, cracked, tear covered lips

Touch your ear

Pull me in once again

Bring me near!

Hold me close

You created the moon

You gave formation to stars

You are higher than mountains,

Your son walked on water

Your holiness bestows love on the loveless

You see the heart of man and you touch it still

You anoint those who seek you diligently

I kneel before the throne

I beseech you for mercy

And blessings beyond understanding

Let a miracle be done

So I can carry the good news to all those I meet

Y’all don’t understand,

I’m gonna pray till the mercy falls down from heaven

Like misty, silky rain

Love always, Esha
